Biography

Megan began her career as an Occupational Therapist working as a Disability Claims Manager for an insurance company in Johannesburg, South Africa. After gaining experience as a Disability Claims Manager, Megan commenced private work with her established practice, which she maintained for sixteen years. Megan provided services specialising in case management for Return to Work, Functional Capacity Evaluations, performing Medicolegal Assessment as an expert witness, and providing professional training of WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluations.  

In 2021, Megan relocated from South Africa to Australia. Megan has progressed in her role as a Senior Rehabilitation Consultant through working with clients who present with a range of physical health injuries. Megan also brings her passion for her work into play by using early identification and implementation of intervention strategies to anyone who is at risk of developing a chronic functional disability at work. Megan has a special interest for supporting people who suffer from persistent pain conditions and using her knowledge to offer tailored pain management programs to the injured person’s individual needs. Megan was promoted to the role of Team Leader due to her positive and tenacious approach to work and her support to all of the Ascent Rehabilitation team. In this role she assists the Business Manager in ensuring consistent, quality service is being provided throughout the Ascent Rehabilitation team and regularly provides detailed training for the upskilling of all staff.     

Megan uses her comprehensive expertise and knowledge on how the human body operates to aid her in explaining technical and complex medical conditions in an easy, and relatable approach to her clients. Megan incorporates the application of theory of occupational practice into her work to support people in understanding their pain, the complex nature of their pain, and how to effectively support each client in their recovery journey. Megan utilises a client centred approach in her work and is able to draw on her knowledge and experience to assist with motivating clients who may have become disengaged, fear avoidant or hold a strong sense of injustice. Her unwavering optimism and unconditional positive regard for her clients has seen her facilitate return to work outcomes in the most complex of cases that were deemed very unlikely to progress.  

Megan’s special services include complex assessments including Functional Capacity Evaluation and Neurological and Cognitive assessments; and chronic pain management.

Advanced Diploma of Occupational Therapy (Neurology)
